It is business as usual: Cleaning up turns costly

IT professional Sumod Kumar had taken a 10-day leave and rushed to his village Mallapuzhasseri in Aranmula last week to clean his parents’ flooded residence. With no power, cleaning equipment, water or food, he had to summon a contractor who arrived with a five-member migrant labourer team. It cost him Rs 1,000 a day for each person and an extra Rs 3,000 to clean the well but the house is still hardly habitable.
